Croeso i dosbarth Meithrin! Here you will find important information about our school week.
We use Class Dojo and Schoop to share information about Nursery and whole school information/events. Please speak to Nursery staff for information to set up.
Pick Up and Drop Off
Morning Nursery
School doors will open at 8.50am and you can enter the yard from 8.40am. Anyone arriving after 8.50am will need to report to the office. During wet weather the shutters will be open and the children will come in via the yellow room class entrance.
If your child needs to be collected early or is being dropped off late – you must report to the school office in the main building. Your child will be brought to you, or taken to class, by the school secretary. For Safeguarding reasons we cannot allow parents to come onto the premises without reporting to the office first.
Nursery will be dismissed at 11.20am; please come onto the nursery yard no sooner than 11.15am. Once all children have been dismissed, a member of staff will escort you to the gate which will then be locked in order to allow the Year 2 children to continue to use their outdoor area before lunch. If you need to return to the Nursery for any reason, you will need to go first visit the school office.

Staff need to be aware of your child’s medical background, in particular any allergies (e.g. bee stings, dairy food), any dietary restrictions (e.g. vegetarian or Halal) and any medical conditions that are important for us to know (e.g. asthma or eczema). Parents/carers will need to fill in medical forms which are available in the main office or electronically on Schoop. All medication needs to be given to the main office, not the class teacher.
Children can suddenly become ill and therefore it is important that we know we can contact you or another adult relative/friend at all times. Please ensure that the school is kept up to date with your contact details.
If your child is unable to attend school due to illness, please do not send him/her to school, please telephone us to let us know on the first day of absence. In cases of vomiting or diarrhoea, your child should remain at home until 48 hours have elapsed since the last episode. In all cases of contagious diseases, the school should be informed immediately and medical clearance must be obtained before your child returns to school.
Headlice are an unfortunate recurring problem in school life. If discovered, please notify staff and keep your child at home until treated.
Our Welly Walk/PE Day is on Wednesday. Please wear appropriate clothing and ensure all belongings are labelled including wellies.
Snack / Cooking
We encourage healthy eating at Blaenbaglan and allow children to bring in a fruit snack of their choice. Children can also bring a labelled water bottle in their bags and can have access to it through the session. We encourage you to slice apple as whole portions can often be wasted. Please ensure that all fruit is clearly named/stored.
Your child will be allocated homework via Hwb through J2Homework – for guidance on how to access homework on j2e please see the link below.
We encourage parents/carers to read with your child at home to promote a love for reading. Reading together is a powerful tool for motivating children to read so we encourage children to talk about books, stories and characters. Your child will be learning sounds using Read Write Inc. Click on https://blaenbaglan-primary-school.j2bloggy.com/read-write-inc-phonics/ for further information.
Book bags will be available for £5.00 – please request one by putting the money in a labelled envelope with your child’s name.
‘Our News’
On a Friday morning we will be replacing show and tell with ‘our news’. In small groups each child will be given the opportunity to share some news with friends. ‘News’ can mean anything so we hope that this will encourage all children to participate, feel free to share any photos on twitter for us to refer to.
Newsletters
Each term, a newsletter explaining in more detail the topic they will be studying as well as any important dates to be aware of. Please find a copy of the most recent newsletters for both Morning and Afternoon Nursery children below:
